The life of Ivey: $950k in 756 hands

Posted by admin | Poker News | Monday 28 September 2009 12:53 am

Since martonas showed his face again earlier this week, Full Tilt has played host to some of the most impressive high-stakes action ever seen and Wednesday night was no exception.

The list of players trading pots last night reads like a railbirds dream with Phil Ivey, Tom “durrrr” Dwan, Patrik Antonius, David Benyamine, Gus Hansen, Tom “kingsofcards” Marchese, Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond, Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies, martonas and POKERBLUFFS all punching in for a session.

Ivey sat for most of the day yesterday playing a mix of six-max $500/$1,000 No-Limit Hold’em and Fixed-Limit HORSE, crushing all opposition for over $950,000.

Surprisingly, Ivey’s largest No-Limit pot came in at just over $200k, only the sixth largest pot of the day.

The largest pot, worth $448k, belonged to Antonius with kingsofcards, the most recent addition to the regular high-stakes degenerates, on the losing end.

Mostly thanks to Antonius, Marchese’s session could not have gone much worse, booking a loss worth well over half a million dollars.

Despite the beating he gave Marchese, Antonius’s losses to Dwan and Ivey still resulted in the Finnish pro losing nearly $50k, including $270 dropped in a 400 hand session of the durrrr Challenge.

Full details and updates on the latest Challenge session can be found here.

Gus Hansen stayed away from all No-Limit Hold’em and Pot-Limit Omaha tables, choosing instead to play Limit HORSE.

The hits continue: martonas drops another $500k

Posted by admin | Poker News | Sunday 27 September 2009 8:44 pm

If last night’s high-stakes action on Full Tilt is any indication, when unknown Swede martonas takes his virtual seat, furious action is sure to follow.

The martonas comeback began with a $200k win on Sunday night. But when the Swedish gambler tried for a repeat the next night, he lost over $500k to Tom “kingsofcards” Marchese and Aaron “aejones” Jones.

If martonas is one thing, he’s persistent.

Boot Camp: How Getting In Shape Will Shape Up Your Poker Game

Posted by admin | Poker News | Tuesday 22 September 2009 5:55 am

When PokerStars made a commercial to introduce Daniel Negreanu to its stable of top pros, you might of thought he was promoting a fitness show instead a card game. They showed him playing golf, picking fruit from a stand and running down a distant dirt road.

This guy plays poker? Where's the extra pounds? Why does his skin have a hue, rather than the pale white color of zombies? And why isn't he playing cards instead of running? Shouldn't he be working on his game?

But that's just it. Negreanu was working on his game.

Working out can help you work on your game. Read the full post …

Patrik Antonius headlined an epic six-max No-Limit Hold’em session on Full Tilt Poker last night, taking down the biggest pot of the day online worth an astounding $581,071.

With Antonius, Phil Ivey, durrrr, Urindanger and POKERBLUFFS filling the seats of multiple six-max $500/$1,000 NLHE tables, it was no surprise that some of the sickest action of the month was on display.

The top three pots alone were worth over $1.28 million and the next five largest totalled just over $1 million.

Patrik Antonius took top honors for the night, winning over $383k, thanks in large part to taking down the first, second and fourth largest pots.

The single biggest pot of the night came as a gift to Antonius after he flopped the nut flush against Tom “durrrr” Dwan.

PokerStars Sponsors High Heels Poker Tour

Posted by admin | Poker News | Friday 4 September 2009 6:37 am

Men have traditionally been the dominant gender in the poker industry but times are changing as the interest in our great game from the fairer sex has reached epic proportions of late. A recent poll has shown that the number of female players the world’s biggest tournaments, both online and live, is at an all-time high. I can certainly attest to this after donating half of my stack to the beautiful blonde vixen who sat across from me in the tournament I just busted from, so it is no surprise to see that women now make up almost 25 percent of the poker playing population.   Today, the world’s largest poker school, PokerStars.net, announced that it will be sponsoring the fast growing High Heels Poker Tour (HHPT).
