Posted by admin | Poker News | Tuesday 27 October 2009 11:43 pm

The Littlewoods Poker World Heads-Up Poker Championship title this year goes to Greece with Bambos Xanthos easing his way to victory. Three matches yesterday would confirm the 2009 champ and in the end the Greek pro outshone his opponents and took home the £65,000 top prize.

First up Russian Victor Ilyukhin took on Xanthos and appeared very confident, saying, “I know how Bambos plays”. His lucky pink shirt that he had been wearing all week was no help to him however as throughout their two-hour match, Xanthos maintained the lead despite some swings. Finally, on a Q 10 9 flop, the two were all in, Xanthos holding J 9 and Ilyukhin with 9 6.

GUKPT Thanet Result – Darren Annis Wins GUKPT Thanet

Posted by admin | Poker News | Friday 16 October 2009 1:33 am

Former IT consultant Darren Annis has won his very first GUKPT, beating heads-up specialist Jeff Kimber to take down the Thanet leg and £41,900.

The field of 132 was considerably smaller than most GUKPT main events but with veterans like Julian Thew and double bracelet winner JP Kelly terrorising the tables, any soft spots were hard to come by.

With 11 players left in, it looked as though WSOP/WSOPE final tablist James Akenhead was yet again going to make a major final table but after losing most of his stack in a race, Akenhead had to settle for a little more than his buy-in back.

The blen-durrrr: Dwan liquidates mixed game foes

Posted by admin | Poker News | Saturday 10 October 2009 2:01 am

After struggling to keep afloat since following Gus Hansen to Full Tilt’s mixed-game tables, Tom “durrrr” Dwan had his first big 7-Game win taking home over $584k last night.

In addition to his 7-Game profit, Dwan made an additional $66k playing Omaha, putting him up over $650k for the night.

Almost the entire online poker world made it out for the action with Gus Hansen and Richard Ashby both making over $100k, and Patrik Antonius, John Juanda, Justin Smith, and David Benyamine all making small profits.

But the list of losers was even more impressive with Chau Giang (-$268k), Cole South (-$249k), Nizot Skizared ($-157k), Phil Ivey (-$150k), Sirens (-$124k) and Brian Hastings (-$115k) all taking big hits.

Even David Oppenheim and Allen Cunningham sat for a few hands, donating tens of thousands to the durrrr fund.

Away from the mixed games, Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond and Rob “Vega_Lion” Akery decided to gamble, taking multiple flips for $30k a piece.

When agreeing to flip, both players wager the agreed apon amount pre-flop, regardless of their hands, and check down all streets.

The Life Of Ivey – The Real Story Behind Phil Ivey

Posted by admin | Poker News | Friday 9 October 2009 9:39 pm

Phil Ivey used to be terrible at poker. Way before his seven WSOP bracelets and $12 million in live tournament wins, he was the sucker at the table. It’s irrefutable, say Daniel Negreanu and Barry Greenstein. ‘I heard people say he was a good player and I said, “are you kidding me?”’ says Greenstein. ‘He just played too loose and got his money in bad spots. Negreanu, who has known Ivey for almost a decade, reports similar traits. ‘He played, like, every hand. Most people thought he was a sucker.’ Both players have logged hundreds of hours with Ivey and are also close to him away from the table. But their insight into his the earliest days is difficult to comprehend. It certainly gi

Win a Porsche at PokerStars

Posted by admin | Poker News | Sunday 4 October 2009 2:05 am

PokerStars is offering its players the chance to win a Porsche if they deposit or reload into their PokerStars account before 17 October. It’s a promotion limited to players in North America, though, which seems odd considering Porsches are German. Surely PokerStars could include European players in this promotion, too?

But I digress. If you deposit at PokerStars in the period from 28 September to 17 October, and you live in North America, then your account will be credited with a ticket to the Win a Porsche tournament. This tourney will be held at 13:00ET on 18 October, which is a Sunday.

Card bargains – Cash game strategy

Posted by admin | Poker News | Saturday 3 October 2009 10:09 pm

In limit hold’em there are no fixed rules about post-flop play. You have to think about what you are tr ying to achieve with each move, and tr y to manipulate the table into doing what you want it to do. I’m not looking to beat any one player in particular. I leave my ego at the door. I’m not picky – I’ll take anyone’s chips.

However, having said there are no rules, I will add a couple of guidelines I generally stick to. Firstly if I’m the pre-flop raiser and I’m heads-up or three-handed, I’ll almost always make a continuation bet. I’m a big believer in giving my opponent the chance to fold. Remember, they are going to miss the flop much more often than they’ll hit it. With more than thre
