Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies massacred Cole South and Brian Hastings in the high-stakes online cash games last night. In a three-hour span, Sahamies recorded nearly 1,000 hands of heads-up $500/$1,000 Pot-Limit Omaha against the two. South, likely still stinging from a $700k loss to Ziigmund last week, ended up losing $602k to the swingy Finn. The loss erases all of his profits this year putting him down over $800k. Hastings didn’t do much better, although his $187k loss over 600 hands seemed less significant. It appears Sahamies has recovered nicely from an awful August, earning nearly $1 million in September so  [ Read More ]

UK Poker Event Has Begun

The Grosvenor UK Poker Tour Brighton kicked off on Friday. The poker event was a £1,000 + £70 no holdem tourney. The event is being held at G Casino, a two flight, one first day main event poker tournament. The first flight started up at noon and the second flight at 6:30 in the evening. The event is Leg Seven of the Grosvenor United Kingdom Poker Tour, for which some players had won online tournament qualifiers in order to attend. This same event last year attracted 235 players, won by Bernard Litman, who won £70,520.

The Australia and New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT) is in Melbourne, Australia and set to hold the AU$2,700 main event from October 9-11 at the Crown Casino. The PokerStars-sponsored main event will be capped at 450 players and run for three days. A year ago, a field of 218 players participated in the event, and Sydney’s Chris Levick took down the title and AU$158,050. Last year’s ANZPT Player of the Year Tony Hachem is expected to play in this year’s event, and he is in second place on the current ANZPT leaderboard, narrowly trailing John Maklouf. Although Tom “durrrr” Dwan was one of the biggest losers in September, he has drastically reversed his fortunes so far in October. The 24-year-old Dwan sustained blows from multiple high-stakes foes last month. However, the downswing was largely due to falling behind almost $700,000 in the Durrrr Challenge with Dan “Jungleman12” Cates. While Dwan and Cates resumed their battle this past week after a short break, with Dwan chipping away not much more than $1,000 into his deficit on Sunday and erasing an additional $31,778 last night, it was Dwan’s session with Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies this past week that put  [ Read More ]
