When you win your first bracelet in the WSOP sometimes the only thing left to do is make some noise in the Main Event.

Jason “JMaster130″ Dewitt seems to have taken that to heart on Day 2b as he’s fought his way into the top 10 chip counts as of the dinner break with over 200k.

It was the last of the 56 preliminary events at the 2010 World Series of Poker, and it didn’t fail to impress. The $2,500 NLHE event caught the attention of players arriving in Las Vegas, as well as pros looking for one last chance to cash before the Main Event. No matter the reason for playing, the WSOP gold bracelet was at the center of it all – the heart and soul of the seven weeks of the Series.

There were 1,942 players to start the event, which resulted in a $4,466,600 prize pool. Day 1 thinned the field to 502 players, and in the midst of Day 2, it was whittled down far enough to burst the money bubble and allow the last 198 players to cash. D Read the full post …

The Future Of Poker

Posted by admin | Poker News | Friday 25 June 2010 2:31 pm

Who would have thought ten years ago that poker would be such a global phenomenon in 2010? If not for the online revolution and the ‘Chris Moneymaker effect’ poker could still largely be an underground game, played in sticky-floored cardrooms and only be a select group of pros and wealthy amateurs.

How times have changed. During the past decade poker has become a mainstream pursuit, played my millions of people across the world every day, broadcast several nights a week on TV, and creating a global industry worth billions. Poker has taken over the world – this much we know.

Baker Bakes a WSOP Win

Posted by admin | Poker News | Monday 7 June 2010 7:00 pm

Add David “Bakes” Baker to the list of early contenders for the 2010 WSOP Player of the Year award.

The 23-year-old American won his first WSOP bracelet Friday, taking down the $10k Deuce-to-Seven Draw (No-Limit) Championship and adding to an already impressive 2010 WSOP performance.

Baker had to topple a table of world-class foes at the final table to come away with the first-place finish and $294,321 cash prize.

Despite his youth, Baker turned away John Juanda, Erik Seidel and Eric Kesselman at the final table before defeating Eric Cloutier heads-up for the bracelet.

Daniel Negreanu finished one spot short of the final table in eighth place, and yet another former bracelet winner, Yan Chen, finished 12th.

For Baker, who just recently took up Deuce-to-Seven, it was quite a showing against poker’s best.

“It makes me feel pretty good that I could develop basically a world-class Deuce game in five months,” Baker said.

“Those names – I never thought I’d be playing with them, so it is kind of cool.”

Bakes also finished strong in the $50k Players Championship earlier in the 2010 WSOP, placing sixth.

While it’s still early in the WSOP, Baker is in contention for Player of the Year honors, and the weight of Friday’s accomplishment wasn’t lost on the champion.

“This is the ultimate poker achievement,” Baker said.

“It’s a great feeling.  There is not really anything better than this, except multiple gold bracelets.”

Other early POY contenders include Juanda, who finished fourth for $78,088 and made his third final table of the WSOP.

The 2010 WSOP continues through July 17.
