Borgata Poker Open Reduces Buy In

Posted by admin | Poker News | Monday 17 August 2009 6:07 am

The Borgata Poker Open is going to hold their buy in at a reduced cost. Perhaps as an effort to appeal to those facing crisis during these tough economic times the Borgata Poker Open has dropped the $10k buy in to $3,500. Reducing the buy ins has happened before in recent years, but typically they are dropped down to $5k. The aim of lowering the buy in this much is to bring in more casual players, giving them a chance at a championship title, but also filling the tourney with dead money.

Part one of this series on floating can be found here.

Last time around I began looking at the float play, and outlined some of the factors that should be considered when making this play. In this article, I will complete this analysis before looking at some effective counter strategies.

We can start this by looking at the type of hand you need to float. Since you are not looking to take your hand to showdown, your actual holding appears irrelevant. But this logic doesn’t take account of the fact that some of the time your opponent won’t pass to your turn bet.

Colorado Poker Player to Appeal Case to Supreme Court

Posted by admin | Poker News | Tuesday 11 August 2009 5:08 am

It seemed as if this case was done and over, with the defendant not guilty of gambling and the game of skill argument accepted by the court. But the state of Colorado had other things in mind. The case of Colorado vs. Kevin Raley came to light in January of 2009, after Raley and others were arrested during a 2008 raid of Rafferty’s Bar in Greeley, Colorado. The b Read the full post …

Poker Tournament Organizer Guilty

Posted by admin | Poker News | Monday 10 August 2009 9:09 pm

A man charged with running illegal poker games was found guilt recently when the court rejected the argument the poker isn’t gambling because of the skill factor. Derry Township’s Lawrence R. Burns, 65, was heard to say he was disappointed with the verdict and that he plans to appeal it. Defense attorney David Millstein tried to convince the court that Texas Hold ‘em is more skill than luck, and thus his client was not guilty. Judge Richard McCormick wasn’t buying the argument. Sentencing has yet to commence, but it is unlikely that Burns will have to serve any jail time.

Posted by admin | Poker News | Tuesday 7 July 2009 3:54 pm

The newest mobile phone generations make it possible: play poker whenever and wherever you want to! Just take out your mobile and play for a bit, while you are on the train, in the university or waiting for someone.

Dragging along your laptop can be very tedious after a while. And those gadgets are not really suitable for a quick game on the run, anyway.

Provided you don’t want to play on too many tables at once, the students’ favourite Netbooks are a good alternative. Yet the real groove hits when you take your mobile out on the train and make a euro or two just so.

With Windows Mobile’s new phones and our partner’s mobile client you can do just that.
