After five weeks of voting, the public has chosen the top 10 individuals they think should be inducted into the Poker Hall Of Fame. Likes of Phil Ivey and Tom Dwan have found themselves on this list.
The Poker Hall of Fame marks its 30th Anniversary this year. Same as it was with last year, the ceremony will be held in November together with the WSOP Main Event final table.
It is all a part of Harrah’s plan to elevate the Poker Hall of Fame and this year, they have gone one step further by actively opening up the nomination process to the public.
From May 26 to July 2, the poker fans were able to give their nominations on the homepage of the WSOP and here are the top 10 nominated individuals during that period:
- Tom "durrrr" Dwan
- Barry Greenstein
- Dan Harrington
- Phil Ivey
- Tom McEvoy
- Men Nguyen
- Scotty Nguyen
- Daniel Negreanu
- Erik Seidel
- Mike Sexton
It will now be up to the Hall of Fame committee which will review the public’s nominations in August and determine if any others should be added before making the final list. This list will be sent then in September to the current Hall of Famers and they will each rank the nominees in order of preference, but only ranking those they deem worthy of admission.
In addition, a selected group of media members will also rank the finalists and then the HOF committee will review the selections and help finalize any tiebreakers or errors. Any finalist who receives 75% or more of the votes will be inducted during the enshrinement ceremony at the Final Table of the WSOP 2009 Main Event.
In order for a player to be nominated, he or she must have played poker against acknowledged top competition, played for high stakes, played consistently well and stood the test of time. As for the non-players, their criteria is a contribution to the overall growth and success of the game of poker with indelible positive and lasting results.
